SENIOR SIDELIGHTS


SCOPE Howland Senior Center, 8273 High St. N.E., Warren, has scheduled the following: Monday, pinochle club at 9 a.m., art class and bridge club at 10, Yoga at 12:30 p.m., tap class at 2:30, computer club at 7 p.m., and C&CC Railroad at 4; Tuesday, cards at 10 a.m., bingo at 12:30 p.m., and cornhole games at 3; Wednesday, cards at 10; Thursday, computer class 9:30 a.m., needle arts at 10, line dancing at 3, and cards at 6; and Friday, line dancing at 11:30. A new discussion group will meet weekly at the center beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday . “The Psychology of Aging” will be the theme for topics covering the aging process. The facilitator will be Dr. Edward Amicucci. On Wednesday there will be a public St. Patrick’s Day dinner at 6 p.m. followed by dancing to the music of the Al Hreno Band from 7 to 9. Senior Independence Senior Center of Mahoning County, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, has planned the following activities: Monday, Men’s and Women’s Needlecraft Club at 8:30 a.m., Cancer Support Group at 10, OSU nutrition classes at 11 and bridge at 1; Tuesday, oil painting, free Joggin’ Your Noggin memory health workshop at 10 (reservations required), computer class at 10 and noon, digital club at 2; Wednesday, watercolor class at 10 a.m., computer at 10 and noon, tai chi at noon, and 500 cards at 1 p.m.; Thursday, Watch Our Weight and Woodcarvers at 9 a.m., Diabetic Support Group at 10, exercise at noon, line dancing at 1 p.m., and beginner line dancing at 2; and Friday, Hartville Kitchen at 10:30, and Texas Hold’em at 1 p.m. The center has applications HEAP and for the AT&T telephone Lifeline Program that can save $12.41 a month off a local bill. Free income tax assistance will be offered at the center. Trained AARP tax experts will be on hand from 9 a.m. to noon each Monday and Friday. Appointments are required, no walk-ins. Seniors are to take last year’s tax return and 2008 papers. This year, you may take the Standard Deduction, and you may add property taxes you paid.
