Counselor education
Melinda Heher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Heher of Canfield, graduated from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, with a doctorate in counselor education and supervision.
Heher earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Kent State University in 1997 and a master’s degree in community counseling from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1999.
As a licensed professional counselor and a national certified counselor, Heher continues to work for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Western Psychiatric Institute and clinic, and is an adjunct professor in the counseling, psychology and special education department at Duquesne.
She and her husband, Louis Cipriani, live in Moon Township, Pennsylvania.
SCOUTS
Earns Eagle award
Andrew Louis DiPaolo, son of Louis and Teresa DiPaolo of Boardman, received his Eagle Scout award at a Court-of-Honor last month at St. Charles Church.
Andrew has been a member of the Western Reserve Council Boy Scouts of America Troop 60 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Boardman, since 2002. His scoutmaster is Byron Harnishfeger.
He was a member of Pack 114 at St. Charles Church for five years, earning Cub Scouting’s highest honor, the Arrow of Light.
His leadership experience includes patrol leader, librarian, historian, chaplain aide and assistant patrol leader.
He has earned 21 merit badges, and his awards include: Six Years Service Star, Fifth Year Pipestone at Seven Ranges Scout Camp, Emergency Preparedness Pin, Den Chief Service Award and Sourdough Award.
His Eagle Scout service project was to plan, organize and help construct concrete ramps and handrails at the St. Charles pavilion to provide accessibility for the handicapped and elderly along with creating a van-accessible handicapped parking space.
Andrew is a senior at Cardinal Mooney High School. He is a member of the school’s speech and tennis teams, Christian Service Club, Music Ministers, Spanish Club and theater department and is a photographer for the school newspaper. He also serves as a lector at St. Charles parish, where he is a member.
HONORS
On Newberry Award panel
Lori Faust, children’s department assistant manager with the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, has been chosen to serve as a member on the 2010 John Newbery Award Committee.
The committee is charged with selecting annually the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. Honor books may be named. The Newbery Award Committee operates under the direction of the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association.
Faust, of Boardman, will serve a one-year term on the committee. She will be responsible for reading and reviewing eligible children’s books that are published during 2009, then working with the 15-member committee to name the best of the year. The Newbery Medal is awarded each January and it is widely considered the most prestigious award in children’s literature.
Faust earned her bachelor’s degree in music from Louisiana State University and her master’s degree in library and information science from Kent State University.
