DETROIT — Rick Nash had his fourth career hat trick and second against Detroit this season, and R.J. Umberger added two goals for Columbus. Jason Williams had a goal and an assist, Raffi Torres and Andrew Murray also scored, and Steve Mason made 44 saves for Columbus, fighting to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Henrik Zetterberg and Aaron Downey scored for Detroit. Chris Osgood made 16 saves before being pulled early in the third period. The defending Stanley Cup champions also allowed eight goals Feb. 28 in a shutout loss at Nashville.

Hurricanes 9, Lightning 3

TAMPA, Fla. — Eric Staal tied franchise records with four goals and six points for Carolina. It was the third time — the first since Ron Francis on Feb. 12, 1984, against Edmonton — that a Hartford-Carolina player had four goals. Staal’s six-point night was the fourth in franchise history. Staal has 32 goals this season.

Islanders 7, Devils 3

UNIONDALE, N.Y. — Sean Bergenheim scored three goals, two against Martin Brodeur, in New York’s victory over New Jersey. Brodeur and the Devils lost for the first time in five games since the star goalie returned from a four-month absence because of an elbow surgery. Radek Martinek, Kyle Okposo, Jeff Tambellini and Blake Comeau also scored, and Joey MacDonald made 35 saves for the Islanders, 8-2-2 in their last 12 home games. That run that includes the Devils’ previous loss — on Feb. 21. Brian Gionta, Jamie Langenbrunner and Patrik Elias scored for New Jersey. Brodeur made 20 saves in the first two periods, He allowed six goals in game for the first time in 162 games since Oct. 21, 2006. Kevin Weekes played the third period.

Bruins 5, Blackhawks 3

BOSTON — Mark Recchi scored two goals in his second game for Boston to help the Bruins snap a three-game winless streak. Recchi joined the Bruins in a trade-deadline deal with Tampa Bay. David Krejci, Phil Kessel and P.J. Axelsson also scored for Boston. Jonathan Toews, Kris Versteeg and Patrick Kane scored for Chicago.

Flyers 4, Predators 1

PHILADELPHIA — Joffrey Lupul scored two goals, Martin Biron made 31 saves and Philadelphia snapped Nashville’s winning streak at six games. Mike Richards and Claude Giroux also scored to help the Flyers bounce back from a 4-1 home loss to Calgary on Thursday night.

Panthers 5, Blues 3

SUNRISE, Fla. — David Booth had three goals and an assist to help Florida move into fifth place in the Eastern Conference, a points ahead of Montreal. Nathan Horton and Radek Dvorak also scored for the Panthers.

LOS ANGELES — Anze Kopitar extended his goal streak to a career-best four games, and Kyle Quincey had a goal and an assist for Los Angeles.

Senators 6, Sabres 3

OTTAWA — Daniel Alfredsson scored his 350th and 351st goals, and Nick Foligno also had two goals for Ottawa.

Oilers 4, Maple Leafs 1

TORONTO — Dwayne Roloson made 39 saves, Kyle Brodziak scored two goals, and Ales Hemsky and Fernando Pisani also scored for Edmonton.
