“Saturday Night Live Just Commercials” (8 p.m., NBC): “Saturday Night Live Just Commercials” celebrates some of the funniest ad parodies produced over the years by the iconic sketch show. Included: “Martha Stewart’s Topless Christmas Special” and “Death Row Bloopers.” Will Ferrell hosts.
“Kingdom of the Blue Whale” (8 p.m., National Geographic): Here’s a whale of a subject! In “Kingdom of the Blue Whale,” National Geographic Channel devotes two hours to the largest creature that ever lived on Earth — an animal that dwarfs the hugest dinosaurs and weighs as much as 25 full-grown elephants. Among the mysteries of these graceful leviathans: Where do they produce their young? The film follows a team of scientists who attempt to find the blue whales’ calving and wintering grounds. It also features computer graphics of the developing fetus and employs a so-called Crittercam: an integrated camcorder and data-gathering system suction-cupped to the whale’s back, which captures footage of krill-snacking from the whale’s point of view. Narrated by Tom Selleck.
“Family Guy” (9 p.m., Fox): On “Family Guy,” there’s more trouble for Peter, who participates in medical experiments to make some extra cash. He’s ultimately injected with a gene that turns him gay and leaves Lois broken-hearted. Guest voices include Seth Rogen.
“Breaking Bad” (10 p.m., AMC): Talk about a mid-life crisis of epic proportions. Fifty-year-old chemistry teacher Walter White (Emmy-winner Bryan Cranston) is stricken with inoperable lung cancer. Desperate to secure his family’s financial future, he teams up with a former student to cook and sell crystal meth. But as Season 2 of this dark and twisted drama opens, Walter’s world is spinning out of control. After bearing witness to the psychotic side of a vicious drug lord, he knows it’s time to cut ties with him, but he just might stuck in a trap from which there is no escape.
“Russell Brand in New York City” (10 p.m., Comedy Central): The British wit has his own standup venue.
“Keeping Up with the Kardashians” (10 p.m., E!): Sisters Kim, Khloe and Kourtney (What? No “C” in the family names?) vie for the spotlight as their careers bloom.
