Wright St., CSU win in Horizon

INDIANAPOLIS — Cory Cooperwood had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Wright State to an 80-70 victory Friday over Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the second round of the Horizon League tournament.

The Raiders (20-12) advance to face Butler in Saturday’s semifinals at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Wright State connected on eight 3-pointers in the first half to help the Raiders to a 36-23 lead with 4:39 remaining. But Wisconsin-Milwaukee (17-14) finished the half with a 16-3 run to tie it at 39 at the half.

Wright State dominated the second half, shooting 52 percent while Wisconsin-Milwaukee managed only 39 percent. Cooper Land added 13 points for the Raiders, while N’Gai Evans had 12.

The Panthers were led by Avery Smith and Deonte Roberts, who both scored a game-high 15 points.

Cleveland State 67, UIC 64

INDIANAPOLIS — Norris Cole scored 26 points, including key shots in the closing two minutes, as Cleveland State rallied.

Trailing 59-50 with 5:00 to go, Cleveland State (23-10) launched into a 13-3 run that put them back in the lead, 63-61, with Cole’s layup with 2:02 remaining.

In the furious closing seconds, Cole made two free throws after being fouled as the Vikings held onto a slim lead.
