McCartney, Ringo Starr to headline concert

NEW YORK — Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are teaming up to headline a benefit concert in New York City.

The former Beatles will headline the Radio City Music Hall concert on April 4 for the David Lynch Foundation. Other performers joining the two superstars include Sheryl Crow, Eddie Vedder, Moby and Bettye LaVette.

Tickets go on sale on Monday at 11 a.m. through ticketmaster.com.

The David Lynch Foundation provides funds to teach students how to meditate so they can “change their world from within.”

Fantasia to reprise ‘Color Purple’ role

WASHINGTON — “American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino will reprise her lead role of Celie in the first North American touring production of “The Color Purple” when the Broadway musical opens in Washington.

The Kennedy Center announced Thursday that Barrino will join the cast for the five-week engagement starting in June.

Barrino was the first ever “American Idol” winner to star on Broadway.

A single mother and high school dropout from North Carolina, Barrino has rapidly ascended to stardom after winning the third season of “American Idol” in 2004.
