Eight Valley wrestlers still in hunt for state title
Eight wrestlers remain in the hunt for a state title through two rounds at this weekend's tournament in Columbus. They will wrestle their semifinal matches tonight and can advance to Saturday's finals with a victory.
In Division I, Boardman freshman John Dillon, a junior high state champion, is the only remaining area unbeaten, while Fitch's Shawn Ague and Louis Greco and Canfield's Aron Brenner are still alive in the consolation bracket.
In Division II, Beaver Local's John McComas and Dylan Ice, Southeast's Shelton Morris and Howland's Kyle Leek have won their first two matches, while Beaver Local's Arizona Miller and Hubbard's Robbie Lias are in the consolations.
In Division III, Jackson-Milton's Santino Pizzuto and Dan Clawson and South Range's Beau Bowden are still alive in the championship bracket. JM's Vinnie Pizzuto, Tim Wiseman and Johnny Matacic are in the consolation bracket — meaning all five state qualifying Bluejays will place in the top eight — as are Girard's Tony Cardiero and Nico Francis and Brookfield's Dann Miller.
Matches will begin around 6:30 p.m. tonight.
