CLUB CALENDAR | Local organizations plan meetings


ASSOCIATIONS

• NARFE Chapter 14, for active and retired federal employees, will have its first meeting of the year at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Saxon Club, 710 Meridian Road, Youngstown. All federal employees, their spouses and friends are invited to lunch to renew friendships and to discuss how projections of the new administration will affect benefits.

• The Northeast Homeowners and Concerned Citizens Association will have its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 920 Dryden Ave. Guest speakers will be Sean T. McKinney, commissioner of building and grounds for the City of Youngstown. He will share information regarding NSP and demolition projects for 2009-10. ATHLETIC GROUPS

• Girard Golden Eagles will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Girard Free Library, 105 E. Prospect St.

• The McDonald Midget Football Association will meet at 7 p.m. Sunday in the senior citizens room, post office building.

• The McDonald Sideliners will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the high school.

CLASSES

• Austintown II Homemakers Club will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at Smith Corners Methodist Church. Serving lunch will be Norma Anderson and Dolly Conn. Afterward, members will work on an Easter craft.

• Chaney High School January and June classes of 1948 will meet for lunch at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Molly’s Restaurant on Salt Springs Road. All alumni are welcome.

• Woodrow Wilson High School January and June Classes of 1947 will meet for breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Denny’s in Boardman. No reservations are needed.

CLUBS

• The American Association of University Women, Youngstown Branch, will join the United Nations USA (local chapter), the League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown, and the Altrusa Club of Youngstown in a celebration of International Women’s History Month. The organizations will meet at the gathering room of Park Vista, 1216 Fifth Ave., where AAUW will have a business session at 4:30 p.m., a social gathering will be at 5:30, and dinner will be at 6.

• The Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Western Reserve Methodist Church. George Hammar will make a presentation on identity theft. • Niles Chapter of the American Sewing Guild has scheduled a meeting of the Fancy Cutters for 10 a.m. Monday at Lake Vista, 303 N. Mecca St., Cortland. There will be a “green project” demonstration in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. A meeting of Material Girls will be 6 p.m. Thursday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 490 N. High St., Cortland, where the project will be making favors for the Spring Extravaganza.

• The Positive People Group will meet March 17 at the Rosetta Stone Cafe in downtown Youngstown to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and for a pasta and salad dinner at 5:45 ($5). There will be a cash bar. Focus group meetings will be from 7 to 7:30. The guest speaker will be Dr. Kellie Kirksey, Ph.D.

• Youngstown Road Runners Club will meet at 8:45 a.m. Sunday at the Wick Recreation Area in Mill Creek Park, corner of Belle Vista Avenue and McCollum Road, for a program on upcoming runs. Trustees will preside. The event is free and open to the public.

GUILDS

• McDonald Literary Guild will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday at Woodland Park United Methodist Church.

• Western Reserve Knitting Guild will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fair Park in Canfield. Elizabeth Dailey will teach a knitted lace class. Members should take cotton yarn with the appropriate No. 5 double-point needle.

LEAGUES

• Salem-LIsbon La Leche League will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the WIC office, 7876 Lincoln Place, Lisbon. The topic will be “The Art of Breast-feeding and Avoiding Difficulties.” All pregnant or nursing mothers and their infants are welcome. For more information call (330) 427-2155.

• The Catholic War Veterans Paul Sgambatti Post 1903 and the Women’s Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the parish house meeting room.

• The Girard Knights of Columbus Women’s Auxiliary will have a night of recollection at the 4 p.m. Mass Saturday at St. Rose Church. A covered dish supper will follow in Rosetta Hall.

• Junior Seton Circle will meet at noon Thursday at A La Cart Catering in Canfield for lunch and a program. The speaker will be Carmen Leone, author of “Rose Street.” Hostesses will be Florence Lloyd, Mildred McKeown and Dorothy McKeown.

• Mount Carmel Society of St. Rose Church meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the lower church.

• St. Anthony’s Auxiliary in Struthers will meet at noon Monday at St. Anthony’s Hall for a luncheon meeting. Make reservations to your telephone girl. President Arlene DeChellis will update plans for the Mother’s Day banquet to take place on May 12. Committee members for the March meeting are Minnie Edwards, Catherine Ricottelli and Rose DelSignore. A social hour will follow the meeting.

• St. Monica Guild of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Mary Ann Cardiero will preside, and hostesses will be Roseann Valentine, Dottie Varie, Carol Vechiarelli, Linda Vinion and Mary Ann Waigand.

• St. Rose Quilting Group will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the parish house.

• Struthers Knights of Columbus 4224 Ladies Auxiliary will have a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Struthers K. of C. Hall on Center Street. The meeting will be hosted by Marian Jordan and Dolly Troyan, and the project is making rosaries.

SERVICE CLUBS

• Girard-Liberty Kiwanis will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Golf Dome, 1300 N. State St., Girard.

• McDonald Lions Club will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday on the second floor of the Retirement Center, 550 Ohio Ave.

• Hubbard Historical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Hubbard. Local CPA and historian J.P. Marsh will speak on “Restorations in the Hubbard Area.” Refreshments will be served. The public is welcome.

• Mahoning Valley Dahlia Society will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Davis Center in Fellows Riverside Gardens, Mill Creek MetroParks, for a program on “A Dahlia Primer.” The program will give new and experienced growers information on the 19 dahlia forms. The public is welcome.

SUPPORT GROUPS

• The Alzheimer’s Association will have its monthly Caregiver Support Group meetings on the following dates: Monday at 7 p.m. at St. John Orthodox Church, 322 Struthers-Liberty Road, Campbell; Tuesday, at 7 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2305 S. Canfield-Niles Road, Austintown; Wednesday at 7 p.m. at St. Charles Church, Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman; and March 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Sexton at Garfield, Struthers.

• Fred Childress Greater Mahoning Valley Parkinson Support Group will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road. There will be exercises with Larry Trombitas, and group sessions will follow. Hostess will be Miriam Whetstone. Dues are $10 per family.
