Salem police raid nets suspected heroin and cocaine; arrests pending
SALEM — Several people face charges after a raid to stop what authorities called “a huge influx of heroin coming into Columbiana County and the Salem area.”
Members of the Columbiana County Drug Task Force, the Youngstown Area Drug Enforcement Agency Task Force, and Salem police officers all took part in the raid at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Law enforcement officials entered the rented apartment at 157 1‚Ñ2 W. Fifth St., which Salem Police Chief Robert Floor said is in “a nice neighborhood.”
The raid resulted in the seizure of many guns and ammunition, suspected heroin and crack cocaine, and suspected stolen property.
The case will be turned over to the Columbiana County grand jury.
Floor said the suspects were not immediately charged but authorities know who they are and where they live.
The city has officers involved in both the county and Youngstown task forces.
