Car hits house garage

BOARDMAN — A 20-year-old Austintown woman was cited for operating a vehicle while impaired after the car she was driving struck a house.

Police arrived early Sunday at 18 Lucerne Lane to find a car that had gone off the road and wrecked into the garage.

The driver, Angela Burkey of Nantucket Drive, told police she was driving on Canfield Road and thought she was turning onto Shelby Road but that it was the wrong road and she hit the garage. She wasn’t injured.

A police officer detected an odor of alcohol on Burkey’s breath, and Burkey failed field sobriety test. A police report indicates that her blood-alcohol content exceeded the 0.08 legal limit for driving.

Burkey was cited and released to a sober driver.

Growing Greener grant

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The Lawrence County Conservation District is slated to receive a portion of more than $1.3 million in state Growing Greener grants set aside for several Lawrence and Butler county organizations, Pa. state Rep. Jaret Gibbons said.
