Teacher-coach dies in one-vehicle crash


HERMITAGE, Pa. — A teacher and coach died at the scene of an accident here after losing control of her sport utility vehicle on a patch of ice.

Melissa L. Miller, 35, of 439 Orchard Drive, Lackawannock Township, was traveling on the Shenango Valley Freeway at 9:48 p.m. Friday when her vehicle slid on ice west of Maple Drive, hit an embankment, then rolled. She was thrown from the vehicle.

Miller had taught fifth grade for the Farrell School District since 2000 and also coached volleyball at the West Middlesex schools, winning the league championship this year.
