J-Milton wrestlers place fifth

MAPLE HEIGHTS — Jackson-Milton High placed fifth with 98 points and produced five state qualifiers, to highlight Youngstown-area team performances Saturday at the 44-school Division III district wrestling tournament Saturday at Maple Heights High School.
Four of the state-bound Bluejays — Vinnie Pizzuto (103), Tim Wiseman (112), Santino Pizzuto (119) and Dan Clawson (215) — placed second while Johnny Matacic (125) took third.
Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy won the meet with 186 points and had eight state qualifiers, followed by Cuyahoga Heights (113 points, five qualifiers), Manchester (108, five qualifiers) and St. Peter Chanel (107.5, five qualifiers).
Four other Youngstown-area schools placed in the meet.
Girard had two state qualifiers — Tony Cardiero (130) in second place and Nico Francis (152) in third place — to finish 13th with 43.5 points.
Brookfield wound up 17th with 34 points and had one state qualifier in Dan Miller (140), who won the championship. The Warriors also had a state alternate with Tyler Thompson (112), who placed fifth.
South Range was tied for 23rd with 26 points, and had one state qualifier as Beau Bowden (171) took runner-up honors.
Warren JFK finished 32nd with 11 points but had no qualifiers.
