Ashley Moore scores 22 to lead Lowellville past JFK in Division IV


HUBBARD — Ashley Moore scored 22 points, including 12 in the first quarter, to lead the Lowellville High girls basketball team to a 61-49 victory over Warren JFK in a sectional championship game at the Division IV tournament.

Emily Carlson added 14 points for the Rockets (18-4), who led 16-9 after the opening period and 28-23 at halftime. Taylor Hvisdak scored 11 points and Chelsie Marrie finished with 10.

Gabby Lee scored 16 points to lead JFK (8-13) and Paige Klaric added 13.

Leetonia 43, Sebring 39

HUBBARD — Leetonia was outscored 30-23 on field goals, but held a 20-9 advantage at the free throw line to advance to a district semifinal game Thursday against Lowellville.

Gina Jones of Leetonia (10-11) led all scorers with 16 points and was 8-for-10 at the foul line. The Bears were 20-of-31 on charity tosses.

Sebring (10-12) was led by Maggie Householder who scored 12 points.

Division II

AUSTINTOWN — Brittany Ritchie scored 25 points and Amy Scullion added 22 to lead Salem over Niles, 66-22, in a sectional championship game at Fitch High School.

The Quakers (17-4) bolted out to a 21-5 lead after the first quarter and were in control, 40-11, at halftime.

Salem advanced to play Chagrin Falls Kenston on Thursday at 6 p.m. in a district semifinal.

Megan McDermott led Niles (0-21) with five points. Mariah Mostoller added four points.

Canfield 62, Southeast 30

AUSTINTOWN — Canfield (14-8) led only 19-13 after the first quarter, but outscored Southeast 20-2 in the second period to lead 39-15 at halftime.

Kalie Luklan sank a two 3-pointers as part of her team-high 14 point effort. Jillian Halfhill added 13 points for the Cardinals, who advanced to meet Struthers on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in a district semifinal. Canfield defeated Struthers, 56-53, in a regular season game on Dec. 3.

Mya Levels, a 6-foot-2 senior, led Southeast with 22 points, including all nine the Pirates (7-14) scored in the second and third quarters, combined.

Harding 67, Brecksville 59

SOLON — Jasmine Kirkland scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Aundrea Baldridge had 18 points to lead Warren Harding (18-4), in a Division I sectional final at Solon High.

The Raiders outscored Brecksville in the final quarter by 22-11 to rally from a 48-45 deficit to the win.

DeAundra Maddox had 17 points for Brecksville while Alisa Blumenthaler contributed nine points and as many rebounds.

Warren Harding will next play Shaker Heights in a district semifinal at Solon. That game will be Thursday at 7:30 p.m., following the Howland-Twinsburg game.

Boys

WARREN — Warren Harding concluded its regular season with an 18-2 record by defeating Mentor, 74-72, at the Harding Fieldhouse on Saturday night.

Warren Harding is the No.l 1 seed at the sectional-district tournament at Warrensville Heights High School.

The Raiders will have a bye in the first round, then open tournament play against either Solon or Cleveland John Adams on March 7 at 6 p.m.

No details of Saturday’s game were reported.
