Yo-Mah-O chapter installs officers, awards scholarships

CANFIELD — Yo-Mah-O Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals installed officers for 2009-2010 on June 9 at A La Cart Catering.
Joan Giba was assisted by Nancy Brett as she installed Christine L. Bidwell, president; Sue E. Urmson, vice president; Suzette Gibbs, secretary; Olga Rivera, treasurer; and Denise Altman, assistant treasurer. Christine Simone will be the parliamentary adviser.
Bidwell joined the chapter in 2004, has served as assistant treasurer and treasurer, and was named the Member of the Year for 2008. She served on and chaired numerous committees. She obtained her certified professional secretary and certified administrative professional designations and is employed by Youngstown State University in the office of equal opportunity and diversity.
The chapter awarded scholarships of $1,000 each to Amanda Rivera, Eugene Mach and Jerica Perrine.
Rivera graduated from Ursuline High School and has been accepted at the University of Akron, where she will major in business administration. She lives in Youngstown with her father, Frank Rivera.
Mach, a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, is majoring in integrated business education at YSU. He lives in Warren.
Perrine graduated from Ursuline High School and has been accepted at YSU, where she will have a dual major in business management and education. She lives with her parents, Rich and Phillis Perrine, in Youngstown.
The chapter began awarding scholarships in 1951. Since it began to sponsor an annual reverse raffle scholarship fundraising dinner in 1999, the chapter has awarded approximately $25,000 in scholarships to area students studying in the field of business.
