Death penalty sought for Pa. man in tot’s slaying

SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for a northeastern Pennsylvania man charged in the death of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter.

Darak Williams is charged with first-degree murder in the February 2008 death of Kavannah Salvador. The girl was taken to a Scranton hospital with a fractured skill and other injuries. Authorities say the toddler had been beaten for months.

At a court appearance today, Williams told a judge he’s “100 percent innocent”

The girl’s mother, Kashema Reddish, is charged with third-degree murder.

The couple fled after the girl’s death, but were captured a month later in Buffalo, N.Y., following a tip from a viewer of the television show “America’s Most Wanted.”
