Sun 83, Dream 68

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Asjha Jones had season highs with 24 points and 12 rebounds, and the Connecticut Sun beat the Atlanta Dream for their third straight victory. Erin Phillips scored 17 points, Lindsay Whalen had 14 and Kerri Gardin added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Sun (4-3). Iziane Castro-Marques scored 16 points to lead Atlanta (4-5). Erika DeSouza and Angel McCoughtry had 12 points apiece and Chamique Holdsclaw scored 10. The Sun, playing without rookie center Chante Black (sprained elbow), used a 15-0 run in the second quarter to erase a nine-point deficit and take a 43-35 halftime lead.

Lynx 109, Mercury 80

MINNEAPOLIS — Candice Wiggins and Roneeka Hodges scored 22 points each, leading the Minnesota Lynx. Nicky Anosike and Renee Montgomery had 15 points each and Rashanda McCants added 11 for the Lynx (6-3), who scored a season high in points to win their second straight. Anosike also had eight rebounds. Cappie Pondexter and DeWanna Bonner scored 19 points each and Le’Coe Willingham had 13 for the Mercury (6-4), who lost for the second time in three games. Diana Taurasi, the league’s second-leading scorer at 22.4 points per game, had just eight points on 2 for 15 shooting.

Fever 63, Liberty 54

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Fever aren’t showing any signs of slowing down. After an 0-2 start, the Fever continued to roll, tying a franchise record with their sixth consecutive win. Indiana (6-2), which also won six straight in July 2007, is one game ahead of Chicago atop the Eastern Conference standings. “As a team, we’re playing with a lot of confidence,” said Indiana forward Tamika Catchings, who finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. “It seems like the chemistry is there and that’s something we’ve worked so hard to get over the years.” The Fever didn’t get discouraged following season-opening losses to Atlanta and Minnesota. “We’re on a pretty good roll, but nothing is promised,” Indiana forward Ebony Hoffman said. “We can’t think we’re going to win every game because every team has beefed up their roster. Right now, we’re just trying to ride this wave and hopefully it keeps going.” Hoffman had 14 points, Tully Bevilaqua scored 13 and Katie Douglas 11 for the Fever, who beat the Liberty for the second straight night. Indiana had an 82-81 overtime win at New York on Friday.
