Art, writing show winners announced

SEBRING — Copeland Oaks Retirement Community announced the winners of the 2009 AOPHA East Region Resident Forum Art and Writing Show on June 19.

The winners in various categories and their entries are as follows:

Poetry: Ellen Sluss, “Break Your Heart Time”; and Tom Niccolls, “Two Anniversary Sonnets.”

Prose: Joyce Segal, first place for “If It Goes Around, It Comes Around.” Robert Frontz, second place for “The Three Spring Times.”

Fine Art: Paulette Roades, first for “Space City”; Chuck Bell, second for “Nancy Rocks”; and Mary Brewer, third for “Land Ho.”

Large Quilted Works: Nada Crago, first for “Green Quilt”; and Nada Crago, second for “Fall Quilt.”

Computer Art: Wolfgang Weber, first for “Wanna Go 2.”

Woven Arts: Sylvia Rebeck, first for “Crocheted Rose Shawl.”

Photography: Niccolls, first for “Manatee Springs”; Nancy Bell, second for “Butterfly Nose”; and Weber, third for “Scene at Copeland Oaks.”

Fine Arts II: Paul Whipple, first for “Ted” and second for “Immigrant.”

Needle Arts: George Conner, first for “The Eagle”; Ruth Williams, second for “Table Runner”; and Betty Niccolls, third for “The Church in the Wildwood.”

Special Cooperative Art: Crandall Medical Center, first for necklaces, second for cups and third for bracelets.

Conner captured the People’s Choice Award for his needlepoint entry of “The Eagle.”

Winning works from the East Region will be entered in statewide competition during an annual conference and trade show Aug. 25-27 at the Hyatt Regency Columbus.
