Track: New Hampshire Motor Speedway (oval, 1.058 miles).

Race distance: 318.46 miles, 301 laps.

Last year: Kurt Busch won the rain-shortened race, staying on the track when the leaders pitted. Michael Waltrip was second. In the September race at Loudon, Greg Biffle won the Chase opener. Jimmie Johnson was second.

Last week: Kasey Kahne won on the road course in Sonoma, Calif., giving team co-owner Richard Petty his first victory since April 1999. Points leader Tony Stewart was second, and Marcos Ambrose finished third.

Fast facts: With 10 races remaining before the Chase begins, Stewart leads the standings with 2,364 points, followed by Jeff Gordon (2,280), Johnson (2,207), Busch (2,084) and Carl Edwards (2,051). ... Kyle Busch and Mark Martin each have three victories this year, worth 30 bonus points in the Chase. ... Jeff Burton has a track-record four victories, one more than Gordon and Kurt Busch. ... Kahne and Ryan Newman are racing Saturday in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event.

Last year: Tony Stewart won for the fifth time in his first seven 2008 Nationwide Series starts, taking the lead from Carl Edwards on lap 136 and leading the rest of the way. Denny Hamlin was second, followed by Kyle Busch.

Last week: Edwards raced to his first victory of the season and second straight at the Milwaukee Mile, taking the lead from Busch with 44 laps left.

Fast facts: Busch, the series leader with four victories this year, tops the standings with 2,391 points, followed by Edwards (2,264), Brad Keselowski (2,173), Jason Leffler (2,127) and Joey Logano (1,860). ... There hasn’t been a repeat winner in 22 races at New Hampshire, the longest active streak in NASCAR’s three major series. ... Logano is from Middletown, Conn. ... Kevin Harvick won the 2007 race.

Last year: Ron Hornaday Jr. raced to the third of his six 2008 victories, holding off Erik Darnell in a green-white-checker finish. Hornaday, also the 1998 Memphis winner, led the final 129 laps in his for Kevin Harvick Inc. Chevy.

Last week: Hornaday celebrated his 51st birthday with a rain-delayed victory at the Milwaukee Mile. Hornaday led 180 of 200 laps en route to his second victory of the season and record 41st overall. He also won at Milwaukee in 1997.

Fast facts: Three-time season champion Hornaday, also the winner this year at Charlotte, leads the standings with 1,518 points, followed by Matt Crafton (1,482), Todd Bodine (1,430), Matt Crafton (1,482) and Todd Bodine (1,430). ... Travis Kvapil won the 2002 and 2007 Memphis races.

Race distance: 225 miles, 300 laps.

Last year: Pole-sitter Tony Kanaan raced to his 13th career series victory, taking advantage of front-running Andretti Green teammate Marco Andretti’s out-of-sequence pit stop. Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves finished second.

Last week: Target Chip Ganassi Racing’s Dario Franchitti won for the second time in two Iowa starts, easily holding off Ryan Briscoe for his second victory of the season and 10th overall. The Scot also won the 2007 race in Iowa.

Fast facts: Briscoe, third in the last three races, has a three-point lead over Franchitti in the season standings. ... Danica Patrick, coming off a ninth-place finish in Iowa, is fifth — 52 points behind Briscoe. She has four top-five finishes in seven races this year. ... Franchitti won in 2007 at Richmond.

Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals

Site: Norwalk.

Schedule: Today, qualifying; Saturday, qualifying (ESPN2, 8-10 p.m.); Sunday, final eliminations (ESPN2, 7-10 p.m.).

Track: Summit Motorsports Park.

Last year: Doug Herbert won the Top Fuel competition, his first victory since his two young sons were killed in a highway accident in January. Tony Pedregon (Funny Car), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and Hector Arana (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also won.

Last event: Pedregon raced to his second straight Funny Car win, beating Ashley Force Hood on July 14 in Englishtown, N.J. Larry Dixon (Top Fuel), Jeg Coughlin (Pro Stock) and Craig Treble (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also won.

Fast facts: Pedregon tops the Funny Car standings with 818 points, followed by Force Hood (798) and Ron Capps (792). ... In Top Fuel, Antron Brown leads the standings with 864 points, followed by Tony Schumacher (830) and Dixon (767).
