Man arrested in shooting
CAMPBELL — The Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force arrested Robert Armstrong, 26, of Youngstown in the shooting of Eric Weaver of Campbell.
Weaver, 34, was found lying outside his house at 108 Monroe St., police said. Police found him at 12:48 p.m. lying just below the steps at the side door. His keys were still in the lock from trying to let himself in.
He’d been shot multiple times, but was able to tell police that Armstrong shot him, police said.
Police said they are still investigating a motive for the shooting.
The task force arrested Armstrong at an undisclosed location Thursday afternoon after he turned himself in, Campbell police said. The task force turned him over to Campbell police, they said.
He was to be arraigned at 9 am. today in Campbell Municipal Court. He is charged with felonious assault.
Weaver was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he remained late Thursday. Police did not know his condition.
Super Kids derby
SALEM — Quakertown Super Kids, a soap box derby for children with physical or mental handicaps will be at 9 a.m. Saturday on Broadway Avenue. The starting line will be in front of city hall.
Sixteen racers will compete in a double-elimination race to determine a winner in single-car and double-car racing.
All racers will be awarded a trophy at the awards ceremony at the end of racing, which should be near noon. Three racers will go on to Akron to compete in the National Super Kids Race at Derby Downs. Last year, the national champion was a Quakertown Super Kid.
In conjunction with the race, a Kid’s Day is planned by the Salem Retail and Business Association from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children’s activities and costumed characters will entertain. Fire and police departments will have vehicles on display.

Football registration
YOUNGSTOWN — Registration for the Fighting Little Redmen Youth Football Team will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Gibson Field on Gibson Street on the city’s South Side. Children from age 6 to 12 are encouraged to participate.
Spaghetti dinner
YOUNGSTOWN — A spaghetti dinner fundraiser to benefit the Marie Viglio Ursuline High School Scholarship Fund will be from 1:30 to 6 p.m. Sunday at St. Christine’s Parish Center, 3165 S. Schenley Ave., where Viglio was a teacher for more than 30 years.
Cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children 8 and under. Carryouts are available.
Viglio taught up to December 2008 and died from complications of cancer last month.
Junior-high students from St. Christine School and former students of Viglio will help at the event, which also will feature a Chinese auction with gifts donated from students, parents, families, friends and businesses.
