Five-run 10th inning gives Scrappers a road win


WILLIAMSPORT, PA. — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers rebounded from their only loss of the season with 10-inning 6-1 victory Thursday over the Williamsport Crosscutters.

Lurvin Basabe and Kyle Smith each drove in two runs for the Scrappers (6-1). Smith’s single in the extra inning broke the 1-1 tie as Tim Palincsar and Jason Smit scored. Basabe’s hit brought home Smith and Roberto Perez.

Brian Grening picked up the win after surrendering the Crosscutters’ run in the ninth inning.

Starter Clayton Cook tossed six scoreless innings, scattering six hits and striking out six.
