TV show gives glimpse of Pavlik in the kitchen

YOUNGSTOWN — An episode of “Homeplate with Casey Malone” featuring middleweight boxing champion Kelly Pavlik of Youngstown will be rebroadcast at 7 p.m. Saturday on WYTV and 11:30 a.m. Sunday on MyYTV.

“The show’s Web site (metrohomeplate.net) has received a number of requests to rebroadcast this episode,” said Mark Peyko, co-producer of the television program. “The viewers have not seen this side of Kelly. He’s at home with his children making spaghetti and meatballs. He’s a great cook and loving father. The public will catch a glimpse of the Pavlik family’s home life.”

“Homeplate with Casey Malone” is a locally made program that features cooks, restaurants, food manufacturers and ethnic groups. It airs at 7 a.m. Saturdays on WYTV and 11:30 a.m. Sundays on MyYTV.

Outdoor movies return behind Poland library

POLAND — Outdoor movies will return to Poland on Saturday, when Yellow Creek Theatre presents the classic Civil War film “The Red Badge of Courage.” The movie will wrap up a weekend of Celebrate Poland festivities, which will include fireworks Friday and Civil War re-enactments Friday and Saturday.

The film will begin at 9:30 p.m. It will be screened on the route 224 bridge behind Poland Library. Movies will also be screened every Friday through Sept. 11. Go to yellowcreektheatre.com for the schedule. Admission is free, but patrons should bring a lawn chair. Parking is available at the Poland Library.

Wrestling show Friday leads up to main event

AUSTINTOWN — Championship Wrestling Experience’s next live event, One Step Closer II, will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at The Wedge, 1743 S. Raccoon Road. Tickets are available in advance at all Havana House locations for $10 and will also be available at the door for $12.

The show is the final lead-in to the CWE’s annual signature show, Culmination III, which will be July 31.

Cafe next to theater will close, owner says

COLUMBIANA — The Encore Cafe, adjacent to Main Street Theater at 5 N. Main St., will be permanently closed at the end of the month.

Don Arthurs, owner of the theater and cafe, said the closure is being forced by a lack of business.

Arthurs and his wife, Dawn, bought and restored the theater a couple years ago and opened the Encore Cafe. The theater will remain open as a movie theater and stage venue for music, theater and comedy.
