SHARON, Pa. — The 29th annual Small Ships Revue is ready to set sail Friday at Quaker Steak & Lube.

The event begins at 6 p.m. with a prelaunch parade through downtown Sharon. The hand-made and usually quite comical ships will then be taken to the Shenango River for a 7 p.m. launch by their crews.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place, as well as in other categories such as Most Unique and Most Patriotic. A panel of local celebrities do the judging.

More than $5,000 in cash and prizes, including $1,000 for the first-place crew, will be awarded.

“The Small Ships Revue is a ‘build your own boat — anything that floats’ regatta,” said Marla Pieton, Quaker Steak spokeswoman.

Music will be provided by Jimmy Buffet tribute band Fins to the Left, which will rock the main stage at the Quaker Steak & Lube complex, with Pipe Dreams performing at the Sugar Shack. The music will begin at 8 p.m.

A fireworks display will follow at 10:15 p.m.
