CAMPBELL — Police found a submachine gun and a bulletproof vest after searching 108 Monroe St., where they were called to a shooting Tuesday afternoon.

Eric Weaver, 34, was found lying just below the steps of the side door of the residence.

Weaver, who had been shot several times in his face and other parts of his body, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. The hospital’s public relations department said there was no information to report on his condition.

Campbell, assisted by Struthers and Coitsville police departments, secured the scene and found two pit-bull dogs, one fatally wounded. Mahoning County dog warden removed the dogs.

Detective Sgts. John Rusnak and Dave Taybus asked Weaver if he knew who had shot him. He told them Robert Armstrong of Youngstown; a warrant was issued for his arrest, police said.

Police found several spent bullet casings in the driveway. In the residence, police found a submachine gun and a bulletproof vest. Police also found two slugs that had penetrated the walls of the residence.
