Poland festival set for this weekend

POLAND — The annual Celebrate Poland festival begins Friday with a strawberry festival and continues through Saturday with crafts, games and contests.

Those attending can find Civil War encampments at the Poland Village Hall all day Friday and stay for the strawberry festival at the Poland Presbyterian Church at 5 p.m.

The first day of the festival will conclude with a parade at 7 p.m. and fireworks at 10:30 p.m.

The second day of the festival will kick off with a craft show, poetry and a car show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It also will feature “Chalk It Up for Poland,” an art exhibition on the township’s sidewalks, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Poland Idol,” a local imitation of the popular television show “American Idol,” will begin at noon. Contestants, who will compete against other singers of similar age, can sign up to participate as late as 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
