Livi Steel holds off Roth in seventh

STRUTHERS — Roth Brothers scored three runs in the ninth inning but couldn’t quite rally as Livi Steel held on for a 7-6 victory in Class B baseball action Wednesday at Cene Park.

Winning pitcher Zack McGhee (2-3) tossed a complete game, allowing three earned runs while striking out 12, including the final out of the game with the tying run on second base.

Taylor Callahan drove home two runs for Livi (5-18).

Bubba Uhlman, Colin Hart, and AJ Zorella had two hits each for Roth Brothers (8-15), while Damian Shearer (2-3) went the distance and took the loss, striking out two.

1080 Media 18, Youngstown Express 2

Anthony Raschill had three hits and three RBIs and Brad Byers added three hits for 1080 Media (9-4), which scored 16 unanswered runs.

Joe Aulizia, Dan Popio, and Chris Zadroski had two hits in support of the complete game of Chris Morgan who struck out six in winning his fifth game on the season.

Eric French singled and scored for the Express (6-17).

Rondinelli Tuxedo 4, Action Physical Therapy 1

Jason Bagoly and Kyle Vaclav drove home runs for Rondinelli (18-5), while Craig Eshelman went 62‚Ñ3 innings for his third win, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts.

Chris Leiby struck out the only batter he faced with the tying runs on base for the save. Jordan Adkins (0-5) went five innings allowing two earned runs while Dom Neely and Jordan Adkins drove home runs for Action (3-20).

Dave Sugar Excavating 8, Astro Falcons 6

Travis Richey had two hits, drove in four runs and allowed one run in 21‚Ñ3 innings of relief to lead Dave Sugar.

Richey (2-1) struck out one on the mound while Marlo Cleckley, Nick Benson, and Brian Herb added two hits each for Dave Sugar (11-12). Herb drove home a pair of runs while starter Cleckley had seven strikeouts in his 42‚Ñ3 innings.

Jared Turocy had three hits, while Shane Wagner, Mike Natale, and Dave Rossi added two each and a pair of RBIs for Astro (16-7). Mark Warchol tossed two scoreless innings of relief, striking out four.

Players of the week

Rondinelli’s Jason Bagoly and Astro Falcons’ Jared Turocy were named co-players of the week.

Bagoly went 10-for-15 last week with four doubles, five runs and 10 RBIs, helping Rondinelli go 4-1. For the season, the Kent State baseball recruit is hitting .532 with eight doubles, four triples, a homer and 30 RBIs. Bagoly was a 40th-round selection by the Colorado Rockies earlier this month.

Turocy went 10 for 17 with two doubles, three triples, four runs and four RBIs as Astros went 4-1. For the season, Turocy is hitting .547, with five doubles, a league-leading nine triples, and 1 homer. Turocy will play at Akron.

Warren AA PI&I Express 10, Cleats Club Seat Grille 0

WARREN — Express pitcher Rick Banna hit a two-run homer and also pitched seven shutout innings to get the win.

Dave Patrick went 3-for-3 and Frank Rosile was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Express, which is three games back of the Trumbull Merchants.

Knights 9, Merchants 4

Mike Johnson had three hits for the Knights (7-6), while Brett Dutton went the distance for the win.

Tri-State Collegiate League Canton Terriers 5-16, Yo. Metros 4-16

CANTON — Armani Johnson and Matt Pitzulo each doubled and singled and Dom Silvestri also had two hits for Metros, which tied the game in the top of the seventh before faltering in the first game at Walsh University.

The second game was called due to darkness, but not before the teams combined for 27 hits and 32 runs.

Johnson doubled, singled and scored twice, Eric Pirtz scored three runs, Joe Iacobucci had two hits and scored twice, Cory Johnson had three hits, including a double and Jae Leeworthy had two hits for Metros, which held a 16-6 lead before surrendering 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth.
