Ohio Parole Board rejects mercy for multistate killer
COLUMBUS (AP) — The Ohio Parole Board has rejected mercy for a death row inmate sentenced to die next month for the slaying of a man during a 1991 multistate killing spree.
The board voted unanimously to recommend that Gov. Ted Strickland deny clemency for 45-year-old John Fautenberry.
Fautenberry’s attorney Dennis Sipe confirmed the vote, which will be released in a report later Thursday.
Sipe also is seeking a 60-day delay in federal court to gather evidence about Fautenberry’s brain disorder and bad childhood.
Fautenberry was sentenced to die July 14 for the fatal shooting of a Hamilton County man.
Fautenberry also was convicted of the stabbing death of an Alaska miner and the slaying of a New Jersey truck driver, and was linked to the deaths of two people in Oregon.
