Festival planned in McDonald

McDONALD — The 76th annual Homecoming, sponsored by the McDonald Fire Department Social Organization, will be July 1-4 on the village green.

The annual parade will kick off festivities at 6 p.m. July 1, heading down Ohio Avenue to the mill. Grand marshal will be Irene Kunkel.

The eighth annual Run of the Mill one-mile foot race downhill to McDonald Steel Mill through the center of the village starts at 5:45 p.m. that day at the top of Ohio Avenue. The run benefits the McDonald Girls’ and Boys Cross Country team.

The Performing Arts Dance Center Show will be on the basketball courts immediately after the parade at 6:30 p.m.

Rides by Brown Amusements and concessions will be from 6 to 11 p.m., and bingo will be from 7:15 to 11 p.m. at the Ramsey Pavilion.

Advanced ride tickets are available while supplies last at four on a sleeve for $5, and it is only one ticket to ride a ride with the advance tickets, which will be available at the municipal building. Tickets sold later will require two or three tickets per ride. No price is available in advance of the festival for wristband night on Thursday.

Activities on July 2 include: Wristband night, ride all night; rides and concessions from 6 to 11 p.m. and bingo, 7 to 11 p.m.

The annual fireworks display has been changed to July 3 at 11 p.m. Rides and concessions will be open from 6 to 11 p.m., and bingo will be from 7 to 11 p.m.

The July 4 schedule of games for all ages starts at 10 a.m. Games include: The Candy and Penny Scramble, for age 4 and under; Whipped Cream races, age 5 to 6; Shoe Scramble, age 7 to 8, Paper Plate Race, age 9 to 10; Watermelon Eating contest, age 11 to 12; Water Balloon Toss, age 13 to 14; Egg Toss, 15 and over and Parent and Child Egg Toss.

Immediately after the games, free ice cream will be provided by the Fire Department Social Organization.

Residents are reminded that no pets or bicycles are permitted on the festival grounds.
