Commercial Activities Tax

Commercial Activities Tax

Here are some facts about Ohio’s Commercial Activities Tax, which replaced the corporate franchise tax as part of a tax overhaul begun in 2005:

The tax rate is 0.26, or 26 cents per $100, on gross receipts over $1 million.

It amounts to a flat rate of $150 for the first $1 million in sales, as long as sales are above $150,000.

In Fiscal Year 2007, the CAT produced $595 million in revenue, 70 percent of which went to local school districts and 30 percent went to local governments.

In FY 2007, 171,160 entities paid the CAT.
