Softball tryouts
YOUNGSTOWN — YSU softball coach Brian Campbell will hold walk-on tryouts for the 2010 season on Sept. 14-15.
Those interested must stop by the softball office by Sept. 4.
The office is on the first floor of the Beeghly Center.

Swenson selected
YOUNGSTOWN — YSU senior Aaron Swenson was named the Valley Baseball League South Division pitcher of the week.
Through three starts for the Staunton Braves, Swenson (2-0) has allowed just two earned runs in 20.1 innings.
He has struck out 17 and walked six, and opposing batters are hitting .197 against him.
In his latest appearance, Swenson allowed two unearned runs on five hits in 7.1 innings to defeat Waynesboro.
The Braves are 8-3.

Ron Scott memorial
BOARDMAN — In tribute to longtime official Ron Scott’s dedication and service to track and cross country, a special fund has been set up by the Boardman High track and cross country teams.
Scott, who served as a track official for more than 50 years, died last week.
Donations will be used to purchase an outdoor record board in memory of Scott that will be permanently displayed at the track.
Donations should be made payable to the Boardman Booster Club. Please indicate on the memo line of your check: Ron Scott Memorial Fund. All donations are tax-deductible.

Softball charity game
NILES — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers will participate in a softball charity event and Buffett night at Eastwood Field on August 1.
The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley and the Scrappers are sponsoring a community leader/celebrity softball game that will benefit and support chronically/terminally ill children in the Mahoning Valley, so that they may have the experiences generally afforded healthy children.
Teams will be comprised of local leaders and community volunteers from both the Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

Steel Valley Rumble
CAMPBELL — Jake Giuriceo, a native of Campbell, will box Saturday at the Campbell Memorial Field House in a show named the Steel Valley Rumble.
Giuriceo (2-0) is a welterweight.
Scheduled are eight amateur and eight professional bouts.
The main bout has heavyweight Andre Taylor of Johnstown, Pa.

Indians’ Cabrera headed to Akron
CLEVELAND — Indians middle infielder Asdrubal Cabrera, sidelined nearly three weeks with a sprained shoulder, will begin a 20-day rehab assignment in the minor leagues today.
The 23-year-old Cabrera injured his left shoulder while sliding into second base against Minnesota on June 3. The club said he will report to Double-A Akron.
Cabrera was batting .316 with a team-high 38 runs, 13 doubles, 27 RBIs and seven steals when he was injured.
Cabrera, who has played both second base and shortstop, also filled in at the leadoff spot while All-Star Grady Sizemore recovers from an inflamed left elbow.
LeBron moving summer camp to San Diego
SAN DIEGO — LeBron James is moving his King’s Academy summer basketball camp from his hometown of Akron, Ohio, to the campus of UC San Diego.
The NBA MVP and star of the Cleveland Cavaliers has scheduled his camp, for boys and girls between 8 and 18, for July 24-28.
Moving the King’s Academy gives kids in another part of the country the chance to experience it, camp director Damon Haley said Monday.
