Express defeats Action; Wharmby edges Roth


STRUTHERS — Zack Altmeyer tossed a complete game as the Youngstown Express defeated Action Physical Therapy, 6-1, on Monday in Class B action at Cene Park.

Altmeyer (2-2) had four strikeouts while Eric French had three hits and Anthony Mott two for the Express (6-16).

Mike Riffe had two hits for Action (3-19).

Wharmby Sports 7, Roth Brothers 6

STRUTHERS — Wharmby Sports rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Jason Burkes, Chris Miller and David Saluga had two hits each for Wharmby (16-6) while Anthony DeFelice won his third game on the season in relief. Miller drove home three runs.

Nick Reinthaler had four hits and A.J. Zorella two with a pair of RBIs for Roth Brothers (8-14).

OTN Performance 9, Livi Steel 4

STRUTHERS — Evan Bollinger had a single and a double for OTN (12-10). Mike Tomko pitched four innings in relief, allowing only one run for the win.

Brandon Smith had two hits and Tyler Vitullo drove home two runs for Livi Steel (4-18).

Astro Falcons 6, Rondinelli Tuxedo 2

STRUTHERS — Kyle Allen’s bases-loaded triple in the top of the fourth inning helped to lead Astro Falcons. Allen also had a single for the Falcons (16-6), while Jake Dando tossed a complete game for the win, his third. He allowed one earned run and had seven strikeouts. Jaymee Shepard had two hits and Kyle Vaclav added a double for Rondinelli (17-5).

1080 Media 9, Dave Sugar Excavating 7

STRUTHERS — 1080 Media built a 9-0 lead and then held off a late rally by Dave Sugar to give them the top mark in the league at 18-4.

Brad Byers and Paul Indrihovic had two hits each for 1080 as Matt Shelton (4-0) went 51‚Ñ3 innings allowing three earned runs with two strikeouts for the win. Nick Benson, Marlo Cleckley, and Chris Kirkwood had two hits each for Dave Sugar (10-12).

Warren AA League

WARREN — Losses by the Knights and Marlins combined with a 5-4 win over Leon’s Brewers to place P.I.&I Express in sole possession of second place in the Warren AA Baseball League standings.

Express is three-and-a-half games behind Trumbull Merchants.

Richard Benchia of the Brewers homered and doubled while Jonathan Bohla had two hits.

Warren AA teams split a pair of games against Andover Angels. The Champion Marlins lost 9-3 while Trumbull Merchants edged the Angels, 2-1, with winning pitcher Aaron Johnstone improving to 3-0.

At Perkins Caffie, the Knights were shut out by the Jamestown Redbirds, 9-0.

Cleats Club Seat Grille snapped a losing streak by defeating the Redbirds, 3-1. Nick Zajaczkowski hit a fifth-inning triple that drove in two runs.
