Trial of YSU union president delayed to Aug. 5

YOUNGSTOWN — The trial of a Youngstown State University union president charged with one count of menacing has been delayed until Aug. 5.

Ivan Maldonado, 41, of Boardman, was scheduled to go to trial today on the allegation that he made threatening comments to another member of the Association of Classified Employees union at the university in a March 10 telephone call.

Maldonado is president of the 380-member union. The university placed him on paid administrative leave March 13 as a result of a police report on the menacing charge.

Municipal Court Judge Robert A. Douglas Jr. said the defense has filed a motion for a jury trial, so Monday’s trial date was converted to a pre-trial hearing for purposes of setting a final pre-trial hearing at 9 a.m. July 22 and a trail date on Aug. 5.
