Austintown trustees discuss plan to alleviate township flooding

AUSTINTOWN — Relief may be on the way for township residents who find their homes under water after heavy rains.

Trustee Lisa Oles said after last week’s heavy rain and flooding in several township neighborhoods Administrator Mike Dockry sat down Friday with the Mahoning County Engineer’s office to discuss preventive options.

During tonight’s trustees’ meeting, Oles said both parties discussed areas with the most issues and decided South Turner Road was a priority.

She said the county agreed to dig ditches along that road, as well as several others in the township, to alleviate flooding and sewer overflow.

Oles said she and Trustee Dave Ditzler spent several hours at the homes of residents whose yards were flooding after Wednesday’s storms.
