Union Twp. officials set summer paving

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Union Township supervisors bought a $79,212 tractor to replace an aging piece of equipment.

They approved the purchase late last week of the 2009 Massey Ferguson Model 5455. They bought the tractor from Walsh Equipment in Butler at the state contract price through the Lawrence County Council of Governments.

Also Thursday, supervisors opened bids for the summer paving program. They agreed to accept the lowest bid once the engineer determines it meets all requirements.

The lowest bid of $134,021 was offered by Shields Asphalt Paving Inc. Other bidders were: Fulena Pavers Inc., $159,013; Diorio Paving Inc., $144,995; Protech Asphalt Maintenance Inc., $144,312; Butch & McCree Paving,Inc., $144,090; A. Folino Construction Inc., $147,501; East Coast Paving & Sealcoat Inc., $139,910; and Youngblood Paving Inc., $125,849.

The paving program includes McCracken Drive, Croach Boulevard, Florine, Barber and Charlotte lanes and Angela Drive.

Residents were advised that Municipal Drive will be closed at 3 p.m. July 16 for Balloon Quest which runs through July 19.

Supervisors said that anyone who missed the township trash pickup can dump items in a yellow trash bin behind the Municipal Building today.

They also announced that township police will be canvassing the township, looking for high grass, abandoned vehicles and building code violations.
