Poland Historical Society honors Betty Jones

NEW BOARD: Members of the Poland Township Historical Society and its newly formed advisory board recently presented a plaque to Beth Jones in memory of her mother, Betty Jones, who was the first president of the historical society.
In attendance for the occasion at the Little Red Schoolhouse were, in front from left, Andy Hamady, historical society president, and David N. Ludt, Mahoning County Commissioner, who is one of the new advisory board members. In the back are Georgene Fry, a genealogist who works with the society; Pat Grimm, vice president of the society; Beth Jones; and advisory board members Mike Heher, an officer of Allied Waste; Anthony T. Traficanti, Mahoning County Commissioner; Dr. Robert Zorn, superintendent of Poland Local Schools; Kelly Becker of Becker Funeral Home, and Joan Madej. recording secretary for the historical society. Also serving on the advisory board but not pictured are Judge Maureen Sweeney, Poland Township Trustee Mark Naples, Judge Scott Krichbaum, Poland Mayor Tim Sicafuse, Atty. Susan Maruca, Jim Scharville, Poland Township administrator, and Vince Procopio, principal of Poland High School.
Hamady said the society wanted a diverse advisory panel that includes members from Poland Village and sought to take advantage of the number of elected officials who live in Poland.
