Northern Strut Twirlers earn honors at regional competition

BOARDMAN — Northern Strut Twirlers Teams participated in the Marching Auxiliaries Ohio Classic Regional Competition in February at Westerville Central High School, where they earned a number of honors.

Representing the local organization were Monica Mattiussi of Austintown; Kerry Kingsley, Megan Howard and Riley Timms of Boardman; Amanda Orr of Canfield; Emmy Graffius of Ellsworth; Madeline Crish, Celia Melillo, Dina Notareschi and Meghan Susko of Poland; and Rebecca Platt of Springfield.

• In the colorguard division — Graffius earned two Superior 1 ratings for her solo routines, won the overall junior colorguard solo division, and was first runner-up for her second colorguard solo.

• In the majorette small ensemble division — Crish and Melillo performed a dance twirl routine, which received a Superior 1 rating and was the first runner-up overall in the junior ensemble division; Mattiussi and Notareschi received a Superior 1 rating for their duet and won the junior ensemble division; Orr, Platt and Susko performed a dance twirl trio, which received a Superior 1 rating and won the senior small ensemble division.

• In the majorette solo division: Timms received a Superior 1 rating and earned a second runner-up overall in the K-3 category; Crish, Mattiussi and Notareschi received Superior 1 ratings for their solos; Notareschi earned second runner-up overall; Crish earned a first runner-up overall; and Mattiussi won the junior solo division.

• In the senior solo division Howard, Kingsley, Orr, Platt and Susko received Superior 1 ratings for their solos; Kingsley earned a fourth runner-up overall; Platt earned a third runner-up overall; and Orr earned a first runner-up overall.
