Communications tower

Communications tower

A U.S. House bill provides money for a communications tower in Weathersfield Township, a police car and maintenance truck garage in Jackson Township and for Youngstown Police Athletic League programs.

The Commerce, Justice and Science spending bill must also get approval from the U.S. Senate and be signed into law by the president.

The bill would provide $495,000 for a 190-foot communications tower in Weathersfield that would also be used by McDonald and Niles for better emergency, police and fire communications.

Youngstown Police Athletic League would get $200,000 to develop and maintain youth crime prevention programs during nonschool hours. The activities include athletic, educational and youth enrichment programs.

The bill would give $100,000 to the Jackson Township police department to build a garage to house its police cars and maintenance department vehicles.

Worker threatened

WARREN — A 31-year-old Youngstown man working for Dominion East Ohio Gas Co. reported being threatened by a customer with a stun gun Thursday morning after he shut off the gas to a home on Forest Street Northeast.

The man said a woman “cussed him out” when he pulled up to shut off the gas for nonpayment. She went back inside the house while he was shutting off the gas at about 10:45 a.m.

The woman later came back out of the house, and when he rolled down the window of his truck, she put the stun gun to his neck, yelling at him to “say something now.”

After about 20 seconds, the woman left in a vehicle without pulling the trigger.
