Brookfield board hires new superintendent


A search team of board members, faculty, staff, parents and students recommended him.

BROOKFIELD — The principal of Columbiana High School has been named superintendent of Brookfield School District.

The Brookfield Board of Education selected Timothy Saxton, 41, of Columbiana to fill the position. He was given a three-year contract to begin Aug. 1 at a starting salary of $85,000.

Saxton was recommended for the job by a search team made up of board members, faculty, staff, parents and students.

The Canfield native is married to the former Marilyn Marino and has three children: Delaney, 12, Lyndsey, 7, and T.J., 6.

Columbiana High School has been named an excellent school by the Ohio Department of Education over the last 5 years, a state superintendent’s school of promise in 2005-06 and one of Ohio’s top high schools by U.S. News and World Report in 2008.

Recently, the school has been nominated for the prestigious Blue Ribbon Schools Award by the United States Department of Education.

Before joining the Columbiana school system, Saxton was an assistant principal and then principal at Carrollton High School. He has taught at Calvary Christian Academy, Woodrow Wilson High School in Youngstown and Bell-Herron Middle School in Carrollton. He also has extensive experience in coaching varsity football, basketball and baseball.

He is a graduate of Bowling Green State University where he obtained his degree in secondary education, specializing in social studies. He earned his special education licensure, master of education in educational administration and principal’s licensure at Youngstown State University. He completed his superintendent licensure program through Ashland University and the Buckeye Association of School Administrators.
