Two killed in crash of pickup truck, cycles

MERCER, Pa. — Two people were killed after a pickup truck crossed the center line and hit their motorcycles on Georgetown Road in Deer Creek Township.

State police in Mercer said Roy E. Sanner, 53, and Eva H. Struthers, 46, both of Franklin, Pa., died in the accident at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Sanner was flown to St. Elizabeth Health Center and pronounced dead there. Struthers was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver of the truck, Roger Wayne Beggs Jr., 36, of Meadville, Pa., was taken to Meadville Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries, police said.

Police said that after Beggs struck the bikes, his truck left the road and hit a tree before rolling onto its side.

Sanner’s bike slid approximately 20 feet, and Struthers’ bike slid into a cornfield, police said.

Police said they are still investigating, and charges are pending.
