Six northeast Ohio Girl Scout camps closing

CANTON, Ohio (AP) — The Girl Scout organization serving northeast Ohio is scaling back its camping properties.

The scouts have decided to close six of its 14 camps, including Camp Lycopodia in Stark County, which opened nearly 40 years ago, and a cabin in East Palestine, Columbiana County, that is in East Palestine’s city park.

A Girl Scout spokeswoman said the cabin will be turned over to the city, who will continue to use it for the Girl Scouts, but the cabin will be under city control and maintenance.

The Girl Scouts say the six properties were little used compared to the other camps in the region.

The northeast Ohio Girl Scout organization serves 40,000 scouts in an 18-county area.
