Organizing for America to sponsor event

YOUNGSTOWN — Organizing for America, a project of the Democratic National Committee, is having a health-care organizing kickoff at 6 p.m. today at the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, 3730 Market St. It is one of similar events being conducted in all 50 states. During the meeting, participants will see a message from President Barack Obama talking about his three principles for health-care reform and developing a local plan that ensures that reform becomes a reality.

The president has laid out three basic principles that he says should be a part of any successful health-care reform: Reduce the rising cost of health care for families and businesses, guarantee Americans the choice of their own coverage and doctor and ensure that quality, affordable health care is available to all Americans, said Greg Schultz, Organizing for America state director.

WARREN — Police continue to investigate a 2 p.m. Sunday shooting in front of vacant homes in the 700 block of Austin Avenue Southwest that injured two men.

Dana Kelson, 35, of Orlo Drive Northwest, was at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital late Monday with a gunshot wound to his thumb, said Detective Wayne Mackey.

Police don’t know what precipitated the shooting because they have not yet interviewed Talley, Mackey said. Detective Jeff Hoolihan asks anyone with information to call him at (330) 841-2723.

Both men have been convicted on felony drug-trafficking charges in Trumbull County: Kelson in 1996 and Talley in January of this year.
