Fake surveyors targeting elderly in western Pa.
VALENCIA, Pa. (AP) — Police in a county north of Pittsburgh say phony property surveyors are luring elderly women out of their homes so they can be burglarized.
Police in Middlesex Township, Butler County, say at least two women have had cash and prescription drugs taken from their homes.
Police say the thieves come to the homes of older women and tell them they have to measure their property boundaries. When the homeowner goes outside with the surveyor, his partner goes into the house and steals things.
Police believe the stolen drugs are probably being resold on the street. The thieves are described as being middle-aged men.
Middlesex is about 20 miles north of Pittsburgh.
