Lindsay Whalen had 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists for Connecticut (1-2), and Erin Phillips added 11 points. After Holdsclaw’s jumper gave the Dream a 59-52 lead with just under 4 minutes remaining, the Sun had a 10-4 run to pull within a point. Coco Miller made two free throws with 13.7 seconds left to give the Dream a three-point lead. Connecticut’s Barbara Turner missed a 3-point attempt and Phillips missed a layup in the closing seconds.

CHICAGO — Candice Dupree scored 14 points, Sylvia Fowles had 12 points and 15 rebounds and Chicago won after squandering a double-digit first-half lead. Jia Perkins added 13 points and Dominique Canty had 10 for Chicago (2-1), which recovered to won its second straight game and beat Seattle for the first time in seven tries. Lauren Jackson scored 22 points for Seattle (3-2). Sue Bird scored nine on 3 of 11 shooting for the Storm, which had to mount a fourth-quarter rally.
