Rapper in video and CD aiming against violence

Patricia Owens, a Youngstown-based rapper who goes by D.V.A.-Musical Poet, is collaborating with Hollywood music producer Barry Fasman on a CD and video titled “Stopping the Violence.”
Owens is president of Stopping The Violence, a grass-roots organization based in Youngstown that aims to steer young people into the arts and away from the streets. Fasman is known for his work with the NBC show “Fame” and “It’s Showtime at the Apollo.”
The “Stopping the Violence” video will include a signer for the deaf.
Owens has been performing this spring at showcase events in California for industry representatives. She is planning a Stopping the Violence showcase Sept. 6 in Hollywood, with scouts from several record labels serving as judges. The first-place winner will receive a $500 prize.
