Ohio teen arraigned in detention guard death
CLEVELAND (AP) — A teenager has been arraigned in Cleveland in the April death of a guard at a state-run juvenile detention center.
Hubert Morgan, 18, of Erie County entered the equivalent of a not guilty plea today in Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court.
Morgan is charged with murder and felonious assault in the death of 39-year-old William Hesson of North Canton at the center in Highland Hills, near Cleveland. Morgan was a 17-year-old inmate at the time.
Morgan was shackled at his hands and feet in the court appearance.
A Cuyahoga County coroner has ruled the death as a homicide, saying Hesson died of cardiac rhythm disturbance caused by a blow to the abdomen. A prosecutor said last month that Morgan would be tried as an adult.
