Nebraska firm mulling western Pa. power plant
WEST NEWTON, Pa. (AP) — A Nebraska company hopes to build a natural gas fueled power plant in southwestern Pennsylvania.
Officials with Teneska Energy of Omaha have confirmed buying 400 acres in South Huntingdon Township, about 20 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The plant would be built on about 50 acres with the rest of the land serving as a buffer.
The deal surfaced when Teneska struck a deal last week to buy up to six million gallons of water a day from the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County. Authority officials say they were told the plant will cost $700 million to $1 billion to build.
Teneska officials won’t put a price tag on the project or say how soon the plant could be built. The company says the plant could serve up to 1 million households.
