City woman charged with child endangering

YOUNGSTOWN — Bobbi Joe Stevens, 29, of Broadway Street will appear in Youngstown Municipal Court today on four counts of child endangering, two summonses for rubbish and garbage and noxious odors and a citation for failure to remove animal waste.

Police were called at 1:20 a.m. Saturday to the Stevens residence on Broadway, where they found Austin Stevens, 11, home alone with his siblings, Edward, 9, Jacob, 5, and, Jeremy, 4.

Austin told officers his mother had left and he didn’t know where she was. He had no phone numbers to contact relatives. Officers saw the three younger children asleep on the living-room floor, surrounded by empty beer containers, rotting food and animal waste. In the refrigerator, there were only pickles, eggs and condiments.

Police called the Mahoning County Children Services Board, and a representative arrived.

Bobbi Joe Stevens also arrived home; she told police that the boys were her biological children and she was a foster parent. Officers said they noticed a scent of alcohol and glazed eyes.

A relative also arrived at the residence, and the CSB turned the children over to her. The board opened an investigation.

Two shots hit the living-room window, and four shots were fired at the southwest corner of the house, police said.

Officers found one 9mm spent shell and a 9mm shell in a bookcase in the house.
