You want cheap, you got it
EDITOR:
Early last spring our county engineer announced that Mahoning Avenue from Meridian Road to the Meander Reservoir would be paved.
We drivers were very happy because the road had become a hazard from the years of neglect.
Spring came a went, summer came and went, and finally in the fall the bids went out for the project. When they came back, they were all too high for the engineer. So they sent them out for rebidding.
He got what he wanted, the lowest possible price. And we got the lowest possible quality. The entire road is already showing signs of crumbling, and has long cracks in some areas. They had to come out and fill the cracks with tar. That is usually done in the third or fourth year. Ours, the first year. The road will not last two years much less the five to eight years we need it to.
And they apparently, painted the lines with watercolors, as they have all disappeared in just one winter. They repainted the white lines, but as of yet they have not done the turn lane islands, and some people don’t know where to turn. Will we have to wait until there are a certain number of accidents, before this is taken care of?
All of us are aware that times are tough, and money is short. That is why we elect people that we hope will be a good steward for our tax dollars. Well, Mr. Engineer, I think you failed us on this one.
