NILES — Spraying for mosquito control for the city is scheduled for June 24 after 6 p.m. Should it rain that day, the alternative spraying date will be June 25. All those with respiratory problems should remain indoors with the windows closed. Food should not be prepared or left outside during the spraying period. All pets should be taken indoors.

Spraying in Liberty

LIBERTY — Alexander’s Pest Control will fog for mosquitoes June 22 and 23, from dusk to about 2 a.m. In the event of adverse weather conditions, fogging will take place on subsequent evenings.

Cell-phone collection

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The Crisis Shelter of Lawrence County collects unused cell phones and gives them to women who can use them to make 911 calls only. The phones the shelter can’t use are sent to a collection center to be refurbished and sent on to other shelters, turning the project into a fund-raiser. If your school, church or business can be a collection site, call the shelter at (724) 652-9206, ext. 105.

Children’s program

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Historical Center will present a children’s history program June 24 titled “Women Warriors: The Suffragettes” at 151 West Wood St. between 1 and 3 p.m.

Young historians will portray the major individuals in the suffrage movement, create a poster similar to ones used by the suffragettes and view historical film clips. The children’s history program is for age 8 to 13. The cost is $10 for Ohio Historical Society members and $12 for others. Advance registration is required; call (330) 743-5934.

Library closing

GIRARD — Girard Free Library will be closed Saturdays during July and August due to financial problems. The library will resume Saturday hours Sept. 12. Weekday hours remain the same: Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library is closed Sundays. In addition, the library will be closed July 3 and Labor Day, Sept. 7.
