Gas line mishap closes section of Route 224 in Boardman

BOARDMAN — Emergency crews shut down about 1,000 feet of U.S. Route 224, west of South Avenue this afternoon after a construction crew punctured a gas line.

Paula Putnam, a spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Transportation District 4, said the incident occurred about 3 p.m.

The work is to widen U.S. 224, adding turn lanes.

Putnam said traffic is being routed to Southern Boulevard as emergency crews await the arrival of the gas company.
