Cleveland schools CEO balks at contract extension

CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland’s schools chief says he wants another seven years on the job, but has passed up a contract extension for the second time.

Schools CEO Eugene Sanders signed his original four-year contract in 2006. It was extended once and will expire on June 30, 2011.

If the board doesn’t act, the deal includes automatic annual one-year extensions, but Sanders has told the board he doesn’t want them.

Sanders says he wants the board to review his work after five years on the job, which would be in 2011.
